Xbox controllers have a tiny bit of "padding" cushion where the trigger makes contact with the underlying plastic. This cushion has worn out and failed on 3 unlike controllers I have so far. When this happens, the cushion material breaks down and the adhesive keeping it place comes in contact with the trigger and causes it to stick.

The most frustrating part is that this has happened on a brand new carbon controller I bought a month ago. On my previous 2 controllers (both Xbox 1 controllers), this failure happened virtually a twelvemonth into utilise.

Anyhow, you tin can use a tool to pry the sides off your controller then remove the failed cushion material and swab information technology downwardly with alcohol to remove the adhesive. The problem is now the controller makes hard contact with the plastic when pulled giving it a much harsher feel when using it.

Has anyone this happened to replaced this "cushion" with something else? I've been googling around and plant that some people have tried but nothing really works equally well every bit the original material.

Oasis't had any issues with my Series 10 controller or I controller (though to be off-white I oasis't used the latter in virtually a yr since my Series controller has replaced information technology in all things Xbox or PC controller related). So far the L/R triggers seem to be working well with no sign of breaking down, knock on wood.

The but issue I've always had with Xbox triggers was with my Xbox One controller. I of the triggers fabricated sort of a creaking sound, then I took it apart and used some lithium grease to lubricate information technology. No issues since and then.

Aye I'k in the grouping that's never heard of this. I love my Series controller, I promise information technology never experiences this.

The closest issue to this was like 2 or 3 weeks later I got a blue Xbox One remote in 2014 a screw belongings something together in one of the triggers got lose and preventing me from engaging the trigger, then I had to take it autonomously and re-screw that screw back into place, merely even almost 7 years later the remote still works perfectly fine later on I screwed the screw back into place.

No merely I could come across this being more mutual if you play a lot of racing games where the triggers are often pressed all the way down.

The primary result I've experienced is stick migrate but that's every manufacturer now.

Yeah, and so annoying.

Information technology goes away after a while only you need to be careful with it. Pressing too hard and later on a while it will certainly sticks.

In F1 I had to wait for a while to let it get back into shape because I was fucking up corners.

This started happening a few weeks agone with i of my Series X controllers, merely on the right trigger. Cheers for the reminder to run into if I tin get a warranty replacement. I take just been using my other ane in the concurrently.

No trigger problems only I've had a bumper pause on 1 controller and got stick migrate on another (after iii fucking months). The quality of the Xbox controllers is pretty garbage.

Only upshot I've ever had with an xbox controller that I tin can remember was a custom gears one had a shape cutout that was slightly misaligned simply using an exactly knife to carve out a little more than space fixed the issue. My solar day ane series X controller is still going strong.

Only outcome I had with the new Xbox controller was a squeaky trigger for a week. It really sucked, but resolved itself through usage, I guess.

My elite v2 had this happen. Opened information technology upwardly and removed them and cleaned the points with some IPA to make the stickiness get away.

But yes know its got a harsh sound and feel. Really fun when using your short throw adjustments, and are spamming RT in Destiny and your clanmates wonder what the hell that noise is.

Not known of it thankfully. My right trigger on Elite 2 has come up to be slightly 'creakier' in sound, but works fine.

It never happened on many controllers I had and used for hours (launch Ane, Scorpio, Aristocracy V1, Series 10).

But on my Elite V2 it started on the correct one after hundreds of hours of gameplay, then it stopped by itself after i week or two, at present it happened on the left i, merely stopped too after 2 months.

Not a big issue, it did not stick that much.

Haven't had a problem with my triggers before, although I had one Y button stick on a 1 controller and my series X controller'south B push button started sticking the other 24-hour interval.

This happened with my Elite Series 2 controller. I dearest that controller simply the issues with it are insurmountable.

This happened not too long later I got my Elite v2. At least iii-four month in owning

Edit:

This happened with my Elite Series 2 controller. I love that controller only the bug with information technology are insurmountable.

This is exactly why as much as I love the feel and look of the controller, and loving the new Halo themed i -- can't justify the price with the garbage bug/quality command.

My Xbox One X pack-in controller has a correct trigger like this - at that place's unintentional resistance and it makes a click/crunch sound whenever I first pull the trigger afterwards leaving it lonely for some minutes. Thankfully all my other Xbox One and Series controllers take smooth trigger pulls.

I had this problem 20 years ago (literally) with my Dreamcast. Oasis't had an issue since.

I have worn a trigger spring down on a wired 360 controller from overuse, simply I had that as my primary pc controller for most 7 years.

I basically became a super squeaky and annoying mess to use.

I think the only bug I've had with Xbox controllers were the mean solar day i edition controllers for the Xbox i. For whatever reason those sticks were "sticky" right out the box. Both me and my blood brother'south.

Happened to my Elite Serial 2, right trigger. Eventually stock-still information technology past taking the absorber off and using goo gone. The warranty was way by gone anyway at that signal.

My Series Southward controller behaves like this since day 1. Very abrasive when playing Forza.

This has happened to me with two different Series controllers.
Thankfully, it'due south also fairly piece of cake to fix. I popped the side covers open with a plastic prying tool, so rubbed the dorsum of the trigger with a swab dabbed in rubbing alcohol. The issue actually came back a few months later, but I cleaned it again and information technology was skilful.

Abrasive.

EDIT: I play a LOT of racing games, and then I'k non surprised information technology happened to me more than to others.

This happened non too long afterwards I got my Elite v2. At least 3-4 calendar month in owning

Edit:

This is exactly why as much every bit I dear the feel and wait of the controller, and loving the new Halo themed ane -- can't justify the price with the garbage problems/quality control.

Same here. I love the controller, but mine is junked becuase I dropped it accidentally and broken the plastic on one of the triggers. This is after sending two of them in for warranty. It's a huge disappointment. So much money for a fragile and defect prone controller.

not the trigger, merely my home button keeps stucking on series x controller, sick try blowing some pressured air to its side.

I've.... *ahem* learned my lesson.... every bit I hate to admit after buying into the elites iii times.
My OG elite worked well until it'd randomly turn off mid game session. Manifestly I grip my controllers hard. Got a replacement trounce for it and information technology fixed the upshot along with the less problematic but still very annoying peeling grips.

Hoped the white Elite would be better constructed. Got bad globe-trotting on that one. replaced the analog stick PCB. Been ok since.

And then was VERY excited for the Aristocracy V.2, but the aforementioned sticky trigger, gummy feeling click on the left analog stick, the A button occasionally sticking, or the random wireless disconnects. And now that I picked upward it to mess effectually with. I have the grip peeling on this too.... Fuckin' aye.

And my friend has sent his V2 in, I call back 5-6 times while the controller has been under warranty?

It'southward really a shame, I'm already fashion off topic -- but the Series controllers feel SO practiced in the hand, clicky d-pad aside -- it'due south treated me very well along with the standard X1 controllers. I don't understand why MS can't seem to become this right.

Equally information technology stands. Give me a Series controller with the heft and the magnetic thumbsticks in the same former plastic shell.

the padding on mine used to motion with consecutive presses.. at first it felt ok, just in longer sessions, the cream would be pushed sideways and i would get the plasticky click... ended up exchanging mine for a new unit, without the trouble.

Happened on my Elite Series ii. Took it apart and glued the pad back on merely the right trigger still makes a sqeeky sound when I use it

Yes, I had to squeeze a pin down the gap and scrape it out. My RT Button makes a racket now just better than sticking. SX Controller.

  • #43
Yup. Just dealt with this on me elite serial ii controller immediately after receiving it back from warranty repair (left bumper not responding)

The left trigger was sticking in the default position causing me to use more force to press it which was very distracting.

Subsequently a chip of googling I discovered the effect was that little foam pad. After numerous uses the pad starts shifting eventually sliding off its original position and exposing the glue underneath which causes the sticking.

So I took the pad apart (again) and repositioned the foam pad and cleaned up the surrounding area with some isopropyl booze.

Seems near 99 pct improve now. Hopefully it holds up long enough or until they come up out with a series three with a better build quality.

Yes, fortunately, I was playing a lot of Forza Horizon when I got my Series 10 a couple months ago, a game like that where you are pressing the right trigger a lot will expose this defect very quickly.

I went through 3 controllers until I finally received a working 1 from Microsoft. This upshot is listed every bit one of the reasons for render when using your warranty for return, venture to gauge it is a pretty widespread outcome just a lot of people may not know they accept the event if they don't use the triggers a lot. Specially the right side trigger for whatever reason, as was the example with me.

Yep, happened to me on my pattern lab controller. I call up it happens from squeezing triggers also hard. Very easy fix though, took 5 minutes to pop the pieces off and swab information technology down with rubbing alcohol.

It happened on my design lab controller for the Xbox One. It felt more like a spring result though since mine besides fabricated a dissonance. Could exist a different merely similar issue. Was able to become it warranted since it occurred within the 90 twenty-four hour period menstruation simply the replacement did the same affair after a few months. Unfortunately it didn't beginning until the new warranty ran out. But information technology comes and goes. Oddly enough, it never happened on any of the regular controllers I purchased. It only happened on the design lab ones. I'm at present using a Series controller and have had no issues so far.

This is like a one infinitesimal video with no words, shows unproblematic fix

1 cotton ball and similar a butter knife

However, does suck that it happens. Just did this to my Series 2 over the weekend
